Ecological-Guided Management

Today, environmentally-responsible management of natural resources is acknowledged as an essential precondition for sustainable and successful industrial and social development. Therefore, it should be among the highest corporate priorities to recognise Environmental Management as a key determinant in strategic, political and business decisions in all kinds of organisations and private enterprises.
Tools to ensure systematic attention to and observance of environmental policy, standards and objectives include, among others, the Environmental Management Systems (EMS). Against this background the training programmes related to this subject like our seminar series "Instruments of Environmental Management" are to be considered as a major contribution to the implementation of central elements of the Agenda 21 in public authorities, parastatals and private businesses.

Outline of Contents
The objective of this training programme is to acquaint the participants with the different instruments of environmental-responsible management and to enable them to apply these instruments in practice.

The ISO 14000 Norm Series
EMAS, the Eco-Managing and Audit Scheme of the
European Union
Eco-Mapping
Environmental Controlling Procedures
Life Cycle Analysis
Methods of Eco-Balancing

Other central Instruments of Environmental Management

Methodology
Lectures alternate with discussions, case studies and workshops. Additionally, due to the practical orientation of the programme site visits at relevant organisations and companies in different fields of industry take place. Practical examples as well as group exercises with presentation of the results complete the course.

Target Group
The training programme is designed for young professionals and junior managers from industry, business, public authorities, trade organisations and consulting companies.

The participants will be enabled to
Judge the economical and ecological advantages of
environmental management systems
Identify environmental problems in their organisations and
propose solutions for improvement
Execute their function as multipliers more efficiently trough
practice in moderation, presentation and negotiation techniques
Acknowledge their special social and ecological responsibility

Management of Dangerous Industrial Waste

Depending on their product range and applied techniques, industry has a more or less strong impact on the environment. Therefore, the manufacturing industry has an extraordinary responsibility for sustainability. The rapid growth of industrial areas and the increasing use of natural resources is a problem of all the nations world-wide. The non-product output of industrial waste is not only an unnecessary consumption of natural resources, but bears an acute and latent threat of environmental pollution.
Against this background our training programme "Management of Dangerous Industrial Waste" supports young professionals in implementing effective and environment-friendly waste management systems in their home countries. The participants learn to assess disadvantages and benefits of different management systems and get an overview on relevant techniques of avoidance, reduction, treatment and recycling of dangerous industrial waste.

The programme shall assist in reducing the impact of noxious waste on public health and promotes the implementation of the Agenda 21 in public authorities and private business.

Methodology
Lectures alternate with discussions, case studies and workshops. Additionally, due to the practical orientation of the programme, different site visits at relevant companies and organisations take place. The results of group work and group exercises are presented within the whole group by means of modern presentation techniques.

Target Group
The training programme is designed for young professionals and junior managers from authorities and organisations which are responsibly involved in the field of urban or industrial waste management.

Understand background and legal framework of waste
management in the Federal Republic of Germany
Assess waste-related risks and effects especially on public
health and the environment
Assess advantages and disadvantages of these system
and esteem the range of possibilities of realisation in their
countries
Execute their function as multipliers more efficiently trough
practice in moderation, presentation and negotiation techniques






Urban and Industrial Waste Management

Municipalities are representing the centres of social life, industry, handicraft and trade as well as of education and administration. The tremendous growth of urban and industrial areas goes in line with a rapid increase of various impacts on nature and environment. This is not only a problem of industrial nations. Even more, it is valid for developing countries were, due to the rapid growth of population and rural-urban migration large conurbations arise. There, the environmental impacts appear in form of extensive land use for private housing, road infrastructure and industry and result in noise, flue gases, solid waste, polluted drinking water and untreated sewage.
Against this background our training programme "Urban and Industrial Waste Management" trains young professionals in assessing environmental impacts and implementing solutions and strategies of legal and technical bases in all kinds of organisations, industries and institutions.

The objective of this training programme is to acquaint the participants with the basics of urban and industrial environmental management, the legal framework of environmental management, methods of environmental monitoring and systematic assessment of site related-risks. Furthermore, the participants learn about company specific solutions and strategies with an ecological improvement.
